What is God’s call?
There are some of the things in the bible where we can see God calling people. We can see different context of God’s call.
1. God’s call for all people
2. God’s call for repentance
3. God’s call for work
4. God’s call for holiness
5. God’s call for a specific task
These are some of the few relevant topics to God’s call. Let’s explore them one by one with some biblical references.
1. God’s call for all people
God is our creator and He is the Almighty God. As we draw near to the study of God (Theology), we can pinpoint that among all of the world’s view of God, it will all go down into One God. The almighty, our Father in Heaven, Creator of Heaven and earth found in Gen 1:2 “In the beginning God created tge Heaven and the earth”
This will help us understand what people believe and who are they pertaining when it comes to identifying who God is in their life. Our point here is to recognized God as described by the Bible. The God we knew and worship is the God of the Bible.
As the creator of all mankind, He generally calls us to worship Him with all of our hearts and soul. This is generally a Call to everyone! Regardless of you recognize Him or not, He is to be worshipped and adore. Psalm 150:6 “let everything that has breath Praise the Lord.”
2. God’s call to Repentance
The second call is a call to repentance. Why repentance? Before answering the “why?”, let us know the “what?”
What does it mean to repent?
Repentance has two implication, if we dig deeper into the root word, repentance is coming from a greek word “metanoia” which means “change of mind”! There is another term used which comes from a latin word “poinitentiam” means “regret” or “repenten”which means “be grieved of ones past and seek forgiveness”
From this teo words, we can draw what it means to repent. As the greek word means, to change our mind, and latin means to regret or be sorry for something you have done wrong.
Now lets jump into God’s call for repentance, as we have attempted to define the meaning, we can now know why God would want us to repent.
Why is there a need to change our mind and why should We regret and be sorry?
The first, changing our mind, deals with the way we believe or unbelief in God. Our mind is full of personal opinion. The way we think of who God is influences our attitude towards our belief system. We have made god in our minds. To put all things in the right perspective, there must be a basis for that kind of standard. The standard of making all our belief system right. That will lead is to believe who God is as He reveals Himself from the Bible. Without knowing Him, we cannot change the way we think of Him, His ways, His thoughts, His standards for “holy” and right living
The second, deals with our emotions. As we understand our belief, we can see how we lived. And this will open our eyes of understanding. God placed the “laws” in our hearts. Our past actions will be revealed and that moment, we realized that there are so many actions, intentional or unintentional, have offended God. Therefore, we become guilty of our actions that needs forgiveness.
The essence of settling our belief is to restore a broken relationship. God initiating that and we respond. The starting point is in our hearing.
“Faith cones from hearing and hearing the Word of God” Romans 10:10
Our belief is settled and now we get into action, full repentance that restores our relationship to God.
It’s time to get into the next call, the call to Action
God calls us to be actively involve in His great commission. To preach the gospel to the world! That does not mean to go out and shout, depends on how God intends for us, we can fo God’s work in our own and unique way of doing the Will of God.
We are called to become preacher in our own level of influences. The way we are, we can respond to God’s call into doing the work of loving and caring to people
God’s call to holiness.
We are called to holiness, or to reflect His righteousness.
God’s call for a specific task
Some are called apostles, pastors and teachers. These are the specific task to lead, teach and train people to grow in their faith and be used yo serve God.
What is your call?
As you see all different kinds of God’s call to mankind. This is what we will make us to press on. If you have been thinking what can you do to keep you going, .
