The steps of a good man | Navigating Virtue and Purpose

Navigating the Virtue and Purpose of our life is illuminated by integrity, compassion and resilience. This path belongs to a good man - a seeker of truth, a steward of kindness, and a guardian of a noble ideals.

Being a Christian means following God's commands. You're already referred to as a "good guy" when you put your faith in Him. You are not good and free from all mistakes, however. Being good means being the person God wants you to be. Our hearts are where it all begins, our thoughts and actions are influenced by our heart's desire. No one can see the intentions of our hearts the way God sees them. And, in that regard, man's position before a Holy God is in total darkness if not reflected in the light of God's standard. As the man journeys through the labyrinth of life and chose to follow the light, the path that a man walks on leaves an indelible mark on the world, shaping destinies and inspiring others to follow.

Being 'good' in the eyes of God is becoming right with God's ways.

Why “Good Man”?

There are references in the bible why you are called a good man, here’s what the bible says if you trust in Him.

    1. You are forgiven - Hebrews 10:17
    2. You are redeemed - John 5:24
    3. You are made new - 2 Corinthians 5:17
These are just few of God’s promises in the Bible where you are assured of having a new Life in Christ, therefore God has put in your hearts His “laws” (Hebrews 10:16) and God made you His “son” see (John 1:12)

The steps are ordered by the Lord

As a “good man”, you ought to obey God. But, how? That might-be your next question, we have the desire to follow God and do good but many times we fail, right?  It’s very true that we cannot be perfect, but we can be right with God, because the first problem is settled, our belief in God. The first step you have done when you heard the Gospel, is a decision to follow Him. How did you know Him, in the first place? It is by hearing the good news of salvation. That hearing is coming from the preaching of the Word of God. Your heart was opened, and you realized you need God that’s why you made that decision to surrender your life to Him.

The same principle we follow in our daily walk with God, hear His Word. The main source of our obedience to Him is clearly written down from the very Word of God, the Bible.

In our verse today, we are called good man and our steps are ordered by the Lord.

How do we follow the steps of the Lord?

The following verse describes the attitude of a good man towards the steps that he is following, “the steps” are called the “ways of God”.

What should be the attitude of a believer?

1. “He delights in His ways”!

The word delight means to be happy or joyful. As we obey God, we don’t see it as burdensome but with a joyful heart.

What can we learn from these verses?

Connecting these two verses, we can learn that the person who obeys God is.

1.A good man in a sense that he is given a clean heart, the sin-problem has been solved and therefore he is made new. He is given a second chance, when in his life he is trying to be good, but this time, God initiated that goodness, by giving a new and obedient heart. The outcome is the joy of following Him.

We can also learn that the life of obedience is:

2. A joyful journey. We are so grateful for every day that God is bringing to us, revealing to us day by day His ultimate will so that we can gladly serve Him.

We can learn that a good man.

3. Serves gladly every step is an opportunity to serve God. It resonates the joy of serving God to other people, the joy of sharing the good news of salvation, the joy of being with the other believers, the joy of worshipping God on a personal way or in a church community. The joy of learning from the Word of God each day.

Psalms 37:23-24

23The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
